Many of us leave our apartment home and head to another home for Thanksgiving dinner; however, there are some people who will celebrate Thanksgiving in one way or another in their apartment. Whether you’re opting to “take a holiday” from your family this Thanksgiving, unable to travel or hosting a Friendsgiving, here are my tips for celebrating Thanksgiving in your apartment home.
Let’s be honest, Thanksgiving dinner involves A LOT of food. If you live in the city and don’t have a car, grocery shopping for Thanksgiving could be a disaster. Instead, order your groceries from Instacart and have them come right to your door!
One of the biggest challenges to hosting any dinner in your apartment is space in your kitchen. With the standard Thanksgiving meal consisting of a turkey and at least 3 sides, you’re going to need a lot of serving dishes. Buzzfeed came up with the Thanksgiving Bucket. It’s a brilliant plan to help apartment dwellers save space when hosting Thanksgiving.
Only kidding on the Thanksgiving Bucket; although, it’s very similar to the “Holiday Trifle” (‘Friends’ anyone?). What I do recommend is buying some disposable serving dishes from somewhere like Party City. Yes, they’re disposable and not the best looking, but who has room in their kitchen to store a turkey platter which you’ll use, at most, once a year?
While on the topic of saving space, create a “bar cart” somewhere in your apartment which will hold all of the beverages for the night. The big bonus here is that this will keep all of the non-cooks from taking up your precious kitchen space!
Here are some ideas for tasty fall drinks to have on your bar cart.
Have some of these top Thanksgiving TV specials playing silently on the TV while your guests are over. Keeping the TV on silent will stop anyone from getting too engaged with the shows, but having them on helps to set the Thanksgiving mood.
Use #MyEquityHoliday when posting photos of your celebration. We’ll be sharing some of our favorites here.
This is just a smart idea no matter where you’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving. Be sure to wear your Thanksgiving pants so you’re able to fulling enjoy the day 🙂
