Maybe a pet fish has never interested you. How about a pet shark? Yeah, now we’re talking.
Believe it or not, there are sharks that would feel right at home in, well, your home: Redtail Sharks, Hi Fin Banded Sharks, Silver Apollo Sharks, and many more with equally radical names. To top it off, many of them are readily available in the pet-trade.
Now, just to be scientifically accurate, these are not true sharks. So… then why are they called “sharks” then?
It’s because their torpedo shaped bodies, arrangement of fins and their fighting attitude makes them very similar to the ocean predator. Think “Honey, I shrunk Jaws”.
Like any other pet, these sharks require proper care and utilities as well. Many species can grow up to a foot in length so an appropriately sized aquarium is absolutely necessary. Food is important as well. Although none of these sharks will hurt anything bigger than a worm, it is important to meet their dietary needs.
So, before going to your local pet store or aquarium, always do the proper research and readings. After all, if things happen to not work out, we don’t want you releasing them into the swimming pool.
Happy Shark Week!
