It’s finally summer! Let’s get outside (no matter what your city) and find some fun things to do. Here’s a hand-picked list of some great events going on in our EQR home towns:

San Francisco

Yerba Buena Gardens Festival  May through October

yerbaDoes the World Cup coverage have you considering a ticket to Rio? Visit this festival instead and get your latin music fix. Enjoy everything from salsa to jazz, from circus performers to samba-inspired  hip-hop. Yerba Buena Garden, Mission between 3rd and 4th Streets. Free.


Denver

The Denver County Fair  August 1-3

denvercountyThis is not your grandparents’ county fair with only hogs and funnel cakes. Founded in 2011, this event seeks to provide a traditional experience with an updated version of the city of Denver’s pioneering spirit. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of animals and fried foods, but also a pavilion encouraging the use of green energy, as well as fashion and “geek culture”.  National Western Complex, 4655 Humboldt Street. $8 for Adults, $4 for Kids, Seniors and Military; $20 for a Family 4-pack.


New York City

Central Park Summerstage  May through September 

summerstageFree outdoor music at the Rumsey Playfield in Central Park.  This year, enjoy John Butler Trio, Counting Crows, Beck, and many more. Central Park, near East 72nd Street and 5th Avenue. Free.

 


Washington, DC

Safeway Barbecue Battle  June 21-22

safewayDo you ever watch those barbecue showdown shows on TV? If so, you know cooking the perfect brisket or rack of ribs can get pretty heated. Even if you don’t, stop by this major BBQ contest and festival for every kind of outdoor-cooked meat imaginable. Pennsylvania Avenue between 9th and 14th Streets. Various ticket packages are available, but single-day passes are $12 per adult.
